World-Wide Importance of Alternative Dispute Resolution

Richard Borchers, President of Legal Resolution Center, traveled in June, 2001 to the country of Paraguay in South America. Judge Borchers spoke to a group of Paraguayan judges and lawyers concerning the important part that alternative dispute resolution plays in the United States legal system, as well as in legal systems in other countries. Paraguay is a nation that is still rebuilding its judicial system, as the country was under the control of a dictator for over fifty years. The dictatorship ended in 1990, and the legal system is beginning to understand the importance of a independent judiciary.

The accompanying articles from the newspaper Última Hora details Judge Borchers' thoughts on the importance of ADR in all legal systems.

Former judges at the Legal Resolution Center (LRC) provide mediation and arbitration in the Denver area (including Cherry Creek and the DTC — Denver Tech Center), throughout Colorado and neighboring Rocky Mountain states, and beyond (including Wyoming, Nebraska and Minnesota), serving communities including Boulder, Colorado Springs, Grand Junction, Fort Collins, Greeley, Cheyenne, Omaha, Salt Lake City and Minneapolis; and counties including Douglas County, Arapahoe County, Denver County, Jefferson County, Adams County, Boulder County, Larimer County and Weld County.
