Since founding Legal Resolution Center in 1999, Judge Richard M. Borchers has mediated and arbitrated hundreds of civil cases, including commercial disputes, professional negligence, personal injury and domestic issues. One specialty area of his is the settlement of cases filed by injured railroad workers under the Federal Employers Liability Act (FELA). He has also served as a specially appointed judge and as a special master.

Judge Borchers received his bachelor's degree from Ripon College, Ripon, Wisconsin in 1968, and received his law degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1970. Following graduation, he served in active duty as a Judge Advocate General Corps officer for the United States Army.

During his judicial tenure, Judge Borchers continued to advance his education, earning a Master of Arts degree in political science from the University of Colorado at Denver and a Master of Arts in speech communication from the University of Northern Colorado. Continually involved in various scholastic activities, he speaks at numerous seminars on various aspects of the law and has co-authored a text on juvenile law.

Judge Borchers served as a full-time United States magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the District of Colorado for eight years. In that position, he was responsible for civil case management. Prior to his appointment, Judge Borchers served as a district judge in the Seventeenth Judicial District from 1984 to 1991. He has handled multi-week trials involving personal injury claims, product liability matter, and commercial disputes.
